Wonderful Response from Fox Digital Design on Etsy
Starting a store on Etsy has been a wonderful experience, especially how traumatic life has been this year. For those of you who don’t know. I lost my mom to cancer on February 28, 2012. Life changes fast, no matter how hard your hold on to the things and people you love.
Last thanksgiving, I found out my mom had cancer. We didn’t know how bad, we didn’t know what kind and we just didn’t know. The following Tuesday my mom went into the hospital and never went back to her home again.
After a 10 day stay in the hospital I put my mom in Hospice. After a 2 week stay, on Christmas Eve, 2011, I received the most wonderful, heart breaking gift in the world. I became a full-time caregiver to my terminally ill mother and a stay at home mom to my then 9 month old son. I was able to spend two months with my mom before she passed away. I learned as much as possible from her sweetness, kindness and generosity as I could. While I gave her love, family and comfort.
When my mom passed, February 28, 2012, I had no job to go back to as the company I was with was moving forward and growing. Being a graphic designer, I knew I had the option to either find a new in-house position somewhere, freelance and/or Etsy. I have been an admirer of Etsy for years. I always wished I had something worth while to sell on the site. And suddenly, I had inspiration, a line of beautifully designed templated memorial/funeral invitations, programs, notecards, etc. While still offering custom designed pieces either through Etsy or my site, Fox Digital Design. On March 6, 2011 I opened my Etsy store, Fox Digital Design and in May I uploaded my first item and sold my first piece on May 22, 2012.
I continue to draw inspiration from the compassion, love and patience I have learned from taking care of my mom, watching Hospice do the most incredible deeds, and my son. I am telling my story now because I am ready to begin and move forward. Instead of standing passively by and waiting to see what will happen next.
I love you mom. This business is for you and me. I promised you I would ok and strong. I keep my promises.
